Mechatronics

ECE 556 (Mechatronics)

This course teaches the fundamentals behind sensors and actuators to command and control electrical-mechanical unmanned systems. For the final project, students are tasked with constructing an unmanned wheeled vehicle from Lego Mindstorm Education Kit (Ev3) to navigate a UGV through an unknown path with obstacles autonomously.

This project showcased the mechatronics and robotics skills students will gain throughout the course. With the help of sensors and actuators, each group can effectively control the vehicle to achieve desired outcomes.

Using MATLAB/Simulink as the programming language, each group was evaluated on parameters like time taken to complete the task, trajectory error against pre-defined paths, and stopping distance from encountered objects along its route. It is a testament to our institution’s success in mechatronics engineering education, and we are excited to see what our future engineers can do!
